Under the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department of the Government of Maharashtra, various welfare schemes are implemented for the backward classes, especially students from the Scheduled Castes and Neo-Buddhist categories, women, disabled, senior citizens, transgenders and all other persons to improve their educational, social and economic standard of living and to ensure their developmental progress. The Social Justice Department is committed to ensuring that the poor, exploited and affected persons get the benefits of all these schemes and the officers and staff of the Social Welfare Department are at the forefront in implementing them promptly.
Through this office, schemes like Government Hostels, Government of India Scholarship, Scheme for Payment of Tuition Fees and Examination Fees for Backward Class Students, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Merit Award, Subsistence Allowance for Scheduled Caste Students in Military Schools, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Swadhar Yojana, Ramai Awas (Gharkul) Yojana, Financial Assistance to Family Members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Who Are Victims of Atrocities, Padmashri Karmaveer Dadasaheb Gaikwad Empowerment and Self-Respect Yojana, Provision of Stalls to Group Workers, Scheme for Supplying Mini Tractors and Their Accessories to Self-Help Savings Groups of Scheduled Castes and Neo-Buddhist Communities, Old Age Home Scheme, State Senior Citizen Policy, Scheduled Caste Sub-Scheme etc. are implemented.
